“It Cuts Down on the Overhead”

One night after night flying, I was heading back to the flight room from our Ops (Operations) Desk. The hallway was somewhat dark, but I could see someone standing just outside the Snackbar, with his arm “snaked” through the security gate. As I walked up behind him, my flight commander pulled his arm out with a handful of packages of peanuts. Initially, he was shocked to see me and immediately attempted to explain his actions.

He told me that our Snack Bar made so much money that we had “to keep the overhead down” lest we draw too much attention to our profits. Not being a business major, I just shrugged my shoulders, saying nothing. However, it sure looked like he was stealing peanuts to me… I never said anything to anyone; however, I lost all respect for him that night.
